10 Great photography places in the world | My love for traveling | Travel blog

The world is full of amazing and beautiful places. I’ve traveled to a lot of countries and besides exploring new cultures and seeing new places, photographing is also one of the things I really enjoy while I travel. And not to get nice pictures for Instagram. When I look back at photos from past trips, I get to relive the trip, have nice memories and picture myself being back at that place. In the past I used to make photo albums, which I got printed into nice books. But since time is an issue, I’m behind on my photo books for like 4 years now… Oops. But I can recommend Dropbox! I’ve set up folders for every holiday, so I can easily access and watch my travel photos. Which is great!

But back to my article. Since there are so many beautiful places in the world that are exceptionally great for photography, here is my personal top 10 of some great and divers places across the globe I can recommend.

All photos in this post are my own and may not be copied and used for other purposes. Just so you know.

1. Gardens by the Bay, Singapore

This was soooo amazing. I’m a sucker for colorful things. And Gardens by the Bay had a great light show! The trees are also a pretty sight during the day. But after dark, they light up and every night there is a light show. Which you can enjoy for free. Just enter the gardens, find a nice spot to sit (or lay down) and enjoy the show.

When the show is over, you can walk over to Marina Bay Sands, and enjoy the light and water show they have there every night.
Of all the places I’ve been, the light shows in Singapore were by far the best I’ve seen.

Besides the big trees, Gardens by the Bay also has several attractions you can visit. Like the Cloud Forest (so many flowers, all kinds of orchids, a big waterfall and walking bridges) and the Flower Dome. And of course Satay by the Bay, a food court which offers really good food for good prices. Gardens by the Bay is definitely a reason for me to go back to Singapore!

2. Jökulsárlón, Iceland

Iceland is an amazingly beautiful country. Whatever season you go. We went at the end of September, and we were amazed by the great views we got to see. Located in Vatnajokull National Park in the south of Iceland, you’ll find Jökulsárlón. We took a boat ride across the glacier lagoon and got to see the ice rocks up real close. Of these ice rocks, only 1/3 sticks out above the water, the rest is all below the surface. Can you imagine the size of these things?! A great spot to visit and take pictures and take it all in.

Also, on the other side of the road, on the sea side, is a beach called Diamond Beach. With black sand and big ice rocks, drifting away from the glacier lagoon, into the sea. And some of them stranding on the beach. You can take pictures next to really big natural ice rocks. It’s a great view to see.

3. Wynwood art district in Miami, Florida, United States

Miami has a lot more to offer than just Miami Beach. Like the Holocaust Memorial, which was pretty impressive. But also the art district. We went to Wynwood. This art district has a place called Wynwood Walls. Which showcases amazing art, by artists from all over the world. Graffiti and street art, all displayed within Wynwood Walls (which has a free entrance by the way!) and surrounding neighborhood.

Just take a walk through the streets of Wynwood, have a coffee or lunch in one of the restaurants. And take great colorful pictures.

4. Maldives

Maldives, need I say more? This is the ultimate place for relaxation, beautiful clear waters, beaches and great views. We went on several trips while we were on the Maldives. Snorkeled with nurse sharks, saw beautiful coral reefs and stood on a sand bank with nothing but water surrounding us. It was an amazing trip and I definitely want to go again!

5. Petra, Jordan

If you haven’t been here, it’s a must see! This complex is much bigger than you think. And it’s not only about that one famous temple image you see and maybe know from the Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade movie. But I must say, it really is a pretty sight. We saw it in the morning, and again close to sunset, which let to pictures with different lighting. Closer to sunset, it gave a beautiful red-orange glow on the temple entrance. Which makes for great pictures!

6. Erg Chebbi, Morocco

Erg Chebbi is a desert in the east of Morocco. You can make desert trips there and even stay the night in the desert. These large dunes of wind blown sand, looking like waves, make great pictures. And it was amazing to experience. We went on a long camel ride, stayed with berbers, who set up camp for us and cooked us diner. And slept on a thin mattress on the sand, with a thin sheet. And looking up at the starry sky. Early in the morning we went back on the camels, to base camp. Overlooking the sunrise over the desert dunes. Really something special!

7. Angkor Wat, Siem Reap, Cambodia

Without a doubt, this was one of the most incredible temple complexes I’ve seen. Amazing temple ruins, beautiful at sunset. A monk in orange clothing spontaneously popping into your picture, making it even more special. At least, that’s what I think. Seeing the tree and temple ruins which were in that famous Lara Croft movie. But just the cultural and religious heritage that you can feel when you walk around there, it’s amazing. Just take a tuktuk. The driver will drive you all over the complex. We went for 2 days, at different times. I can really recommend it!

8. Havana, Cuba

Of course, Havana can’t be missed in this list. Simply because it was such a unique environment to me. The beautiful vintage cars really give you the feeling of being back in time. We took a tour through Havana, which included driving in several vintage cars. That was amazing. And you can also get delicious cocktails in Havana. The streets are great for photography spots. The colorful houses and street scenes make great pictures.

9. Pyramids of Gizeh, Egypt

I just love Egypt and all it’s wonders. Seeing the pyramids for the first time was absolutely amazing! You can even go inside, under ground. You have to walk through a narrow tunnel, where it can become quite warm and humid. But it’s definitely worth the experience. Outside is also amazing, with the view of the pyramids and sphinx. And makes a perfect spot for taking pictures. Besides the pyramids, I can also really recommend Luxor and Aswan, for some great cultural trips.

10. Bangkok, Thailand

Maybe a little obvious, considering Thailand is my favorite country to travel to. But that’s why I couldn’t leave this one out of my top 10. Bangkok has so much to offer. From beautiful temples to street life and night life. We loved the Grand Palace. The whole complex is spectacular. And the Wat Phra Kaew, with the Emerald Buddha. You can make amazing pictures at this temple complex. But the busy streets are also great. Soak it all in, get some Thai street food, enjoy a foot massage. Let a tuktuk take you across the city or take a water taxi for the experience. And go on a longtail boat through the Klongs. There’s so much to see and capture on camera, you’ll be amazed!

Traveling is the best there is and what I enjoy the most in my life. And I don’t have children, so it’s OK for me to say that ;-) With my blog I hope to inspire people to plan their own travels. Not only those who love to do everything on their own, but also people who have a chronic pain or fatigue disorder (like me, I have fibromyalgia). Know that there is still a lot you can see of the world. Just take your limitations into consideration and plan accordingly. So go out into the world and explore!
